Scout Camping Time

Tonight is another campout for our scouts and the eleven year old (EYO) scouts are invited. Translation: I get to go camping with my oldest son. Likely we're going to the LBJ Grasslands and the weather is supposed to be in the low 80's today and 70's tomorrow. Can't think of a nicer way to spend the Friday night of the first of Spring Break 2008.

What I love about our camping experience is the mix of fun with organization. While our scouts are not the most leadership-oriented boys, the adult leaders are well trained and focused on the improvement and advancement of each boy. Each campout is planned with a focus and purpose of contributing to the advancement of the boys in the troop. Tomorrow's activity is an orienteering course for those still under Star rank which most of the EYO are.

Camping in Texas, as I'm beginning to learn, can be terribly hot or very cold, filled with chiggers, mosquitoes, scorpions and snakes or nothing at all. Tonight/tomorrow promises few critters and mild weather which is just perfect to me.
